For those of you looking for AOSP (What is AOSP?) experience on your Verizon Galaxy Note 3 SM-N900V, you are probably disappointed that Verizon decided to put a locked bootloader, meaning you cannot install AOSP ROMs like CyanogenMod, AOKP, BeanStalk, etc…etc…
Personally, this is really bad news for me since I do currently use my Verizon Note 3 as daily driver, and it kills me that I can’t try out AOSP ROMs! (I will definitely switch to AT&T for my daily driver soon.) BUT, there is the Eclipse KitKat ROM by XDA developer Nitroglycerine33!
Based on latest NC2 KitKat Verizon firmware, Eclipse KitKat ROM aims to solve that problem by stripping as much TouchWiz as possible while adding back in its AOSP counterparts for things like the launcher (Nova launcher), AOSP Browser, AOSP Contacts, AOSP Android 4.4.4 KitKat dialer, AOSP Calendar, AOSP Clock, AOSP E-mail, AOSP MMS, AOSP Lockscreen, AOSP UI sounds, and some more.
Also, you will get some additional added performance as Eclipse ROM has all Verizon/Amazon/Samsung Hub/Samsung Updater/KNOX bloatware removed. I know the carriers mean well to put those apps but for most people, it’s just going to hog your Note 3 down. And yes, Wifi tethering is unlocked out of the box.
