For this week’s AOSP ROM of the Week (What is AOSP?), check out the latest AOKP ROM.

Mother of all AOSP ROMs, AOKP ROM brings you the “original” ROM Control features plus the latest additions to Android 4.4.2 KitKat.  If you want to experience the origins of custom ROM customization, definitely AOKP ROM is the best place to start.

I remember the first time I installed AOKP ROM and fiddling with its ROM Control Settings, that was a revolution and in some ways companies are copying some of its features into their OS.

Based on latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat, this ported version of AOKP ROM is nearly perfect, giving you the first-hand experience of the original AOKP ROM, all along with its updated ROM Control.  Not too much has changed since its origins but you can still customize the heck out of your phone. (Also see AOKP ROM Control Tutorial.)

Overall, AOKP ROM is not a ROM for everyone but for those of you who must have pure Google OS on your Note 3 (or at least want to try it) along with the customization kit AOKP ROM provides.  If you are a fan of AOSP ROMs, definitely give this AOKP ROM a try and do let me know what you think!

Download:

Download AOKP ROM for Galaxy Note 3(for SM-N9005, T-Mobile SM-N900T, Sprint SM-N900P, Canadian SM-N900W8, and also if you have AT&T or Verizon Note 3 with unlocked bootloader [developer’s edition])

Download Android 4.4.2 Gapps

Optional: Download Lean Kernel (Credits)

To install, reboot into recovery, make backup ROM, wipe data/factory reset, install ROM, install Gapps, and reboot. (If for some reason you end up in a bootloop, reboot into recovery, go to Advanced Wipe for TWRP or Mounts & Storage for CWM, format/wipe /system, then re-install ROM.)  See How to Install ROM on Note 3 first if this is your first time.

If you want overclocking, flash Lean Kernel after installing ROM. You can use Trickster Mod app on Play Store to overclock.
